terra incognita | Megumi Shauna Arai

Terra Incognita is a collection of work about fear, failure and forgiveness. The Latin term, long used by Western mapmakers, refers to unexplored terrain. The Artist imagines Terra Incognita metaphorically, facing change and the unknown.

Megumi Shauna Arai works primarily in the photographic medium, often creating experiences, situations and landscapes to document. She is interested in biracial identity, intimacy, imperfection, vulnerability and impermanence. Megumi has shown around Seattle at Hedreen Gallery, Vermillion, Joe Bar Café, NEPO 5K, LoFi Arts Festival and recently had a commission with the Office of Art and Culture for Art Interruptions 2014. This is her first solo show.
